While your guide will not be permitted to hike with you, you will be assigned to one of the official alpine guides in the area. Depart from Mount Vesuvius

• Barring inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, the trail to the crater is open all year round, including Sundays and holidays.
• In rare cases of inclement weather, the crater of Vesuvius may be closed to visitors. If this is the case, a stop in Sorrento or appropriate alternative will be provided.

Good to Know

• Each vehicle can accommodate up to a maximum of 9 people (guide and driver included) so with bookings of more than 7 people, your party will be divided into two or more vehicles.
• Pompeii is an ongoing excavation site. The itinerary might encounter some changes depending on the archaeologists’ daily duties.
• The hike up to the crater of Vesuvius is optional and requires a good level of general fitness to complete. The hike is uphill at a 14 degree angle and 20 minutes long (about 1 mile). The hike is prevalently on soft ground, adequate footwear is recommended. Those who choose may remain at the parking area and enjoy the views.
• Temperatures on the Volcano may be a bit lower than temperatures on the ground, a sweater or light jacket is recommended, especially outside of the summer months.
• This tour involves a fair amount of walking, comfortable shoes are recommended.
• During summer, expect high temperatures. Dress in layers. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat is suggested.
• Due to uneven surfaces, this Pompeii and Vesuvius tour is not suitable for those with walking disabilities or using a wheelchair.

Trasferimento a Pompei (circa 40 minuti) in nuovi e confortevoli minibus tutti muniti di aria condizionata e guidati da personale esperto e professionale. Arrivo a Pompei scavi previsto per le ore 11:00 circa.  Visita guidata (2 ore) degli scavi archeologici con una guida professionista che illustrerà la storia e i siti di maggior pregio degli scavi quali il Foro, le Terme, il Lupanare, il teatro greco ed i calchi in gesso dei corpi degli abitanti di Pompei sepolti dalle ceneri e dai lapilli durante l'eruzione del 79 D.C. Al termine della visita pausa pranzo con formula pizza&bibita. A continuazione trasferimento a Torre del greco da cui si accede al Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio fino a quota 1000. Sosta al parcheggio e passeggiata fino alla sommità dell’unico vulcano attivo dell'Europa continentale . Visita del suggestivo cratere a 1200 mt di altezza da cui è possibile vedere il golfo di Napoli da Capo Miseno alla punta della Campanella.  Rientro in hotel alle ore 17:15 circa. Per visitare Pompei, Ercolano e il Vesuvio da Napoli , la soluzione ideale sarebbe avere a disposizione almeno un paio di giorni, ma se avete poco tempo potete organizzare una giornata indimenticabile divisa tra la salita sul cratere del Vesuvio e la visita di uno dei due siti archeologici, Pompei oppure Ercolano.

Il nostro consiglio, in particolare, è di programmare la visita al Vesuvio in mattinata e poi, dopo un pranzo ristoratore, magari a base di prodotti tipici vesuviani , proseguire la giornata visitando le rovine di una delle città romane che nel 79 dC furono distrutte proprio da una violenta eruzione del Vesuvio . È anche possibile, soprattutto se ci si affida a un driver privato, invertire l'itinerario, anticipando la visita degli scavi archeologici al mattino.

Visita al cratere del Vesuvio

Il Vesuvio svetta all'interno dell'omonimo Parco Nazionale e, contrariamente a quello che molti pensano, non si trova nella città di Napoli. La visita al cratere è possibile solo con l'accompagnamento di una guida del parco e richiede una lunga passeggiata in salita. Preventivate in tutto almeno 3 ore e, se potete, evitate i mesi più caldi , perché in estate le condizioni ambientali possono essere davvero molto impegnative: ombra quasi inesistente, salite e polvere.

Per raggiungere il Vesuvio da Napoli con i mezzi pubblici potete prendere un treno della ferrovia locale Circumvesuviana al piano interrato della Stazione Centrale di piazza Garibaldi. Prendete la linea per Sorrento e scendete alla fermata di Ercolano Scavi o di Pompei Villa dei Misteri . Da qui è possibile proseguire in taxi o con i bus-navetta che salgono fino alla biglietteria del cratere (costo: 22 euro A/R, incluso l'ingresso). Da Pompei, in particolare, oltre alle navette turistiche partono, ogni 50 minuti, anche dei bus di linea della EAV per il Vesuvio.

Da Napoli al Vesuvio in auto

Se invece preferite noleggiare un'auto, prendete l'autostrada A3 e uscite a Ercolano o a Torre del Greco, dopodiché proseguite per Via Cupa Monti, poi per via Vesuvio e seguite le indicazioni per il Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio. Dovrete parcheggiare negli appositi spazi predisposti lungo la strada provinciale, a una quota di circa 800 metri. Da qui, potrete proseguire con un bus navetta fino a quota 1000, dove si trova la biglietteria e da cui parte il sentiero per il Gran Cono.

Arrivati alla biglietteria di quota 1000, tutti devono proseguire necessariamente a piedi al seguito della guida vulcanologica.

Al termine della visita del Vesuvio, prima di ripartire alla scoperta di Pompei o di Ercolano, vi consigliamo di rifocillarvi proprio alle pendici del vulcano, noto da secoli per il terreno fertile e la dolcezza del clima.

Se siete appassionati di vino, vi consigliamo di non perdervi la visita a una delle piccole aziende agricole che si trovano proprio sul vulcano. La Cantina del Vesuvio, per esempio, si trova praticamente a metà strada tra il cratere e gli Scavi di Pompei e organizza visite guidate, degustazioni e pranzi. E se non siete auto-muniti, offre anche un servizio di transfer.

Pomeriggio a Pompei o Ercolano

Dopo il trekking (facile) al Vesuvio e la degustazione delle specialità locali, sarete pronti per proseguire alla volta di uno tra i più celebri siti archeologici del mondo : le rovine di Pompei o di Ercolano. Perché solo uno dei due? Perché le rovine sono estese e la visita, soprattutto se fa caldo, può essere impegnativa: a meno che non siate particolarmente appassionati di archeologia romana, quindi, vi sconsigliamo di visitare entrambi i siti nella stessa giornata.

Solo per la visita di Pompei vi raccomandiamo di considerare almeno 3 o 4 ore di tempo.

Quale sito scegliere, tra Pompei ed Ercolano? Gli scavi di Pompei sono più grandi e di gran lunga più famosi. Proprio per questo, però, sono di solito molto più affollati. Ercolano è un sito altrettanto interessante ma di dimensioni più contenute, che può quindi essere visitato in meno tempo. Si trova, inoltre, più vicino a Napoli. A Pompei, di contro, è disponibile un percorso accessibile alle persone con ridotta capacità motoria che, partendo dall'ingresso di Piazza Anfiteatro, consente di visitare una parte degli scavi. Che scegliate Pompei o Ercolano, in ogni caso, vi consigliamo di acquistare in anticipo un biglietto salta-coda, per risparmiare tempo.

A seconda di come avete raggiunto il Vesuvio, potete spostarvi a Pompei o Ercolano con la vostra auto a noleggio oppure con navetta e treno della Circumvesuviana. Le fermate sono quella di Pompei - Villa dei Misteri (l'ingresso degli scavi si trova proprio di fronte alla stazione) oppure di "'Ercolano Scavi"' (in questo caso, seguite le indicazioni per il sito, che dista circa 10 minuti a piedi dalla stazione). Se avete previsto una pausa pranzo presso la Cantina del Vesuvio o un'altra azienda agricola vesuviana, potete richiedere in anticipo un servizio di trasferimento fino alla vostra destinazione successiva.

Vesuvio e Pompei (o Ercolano) con un tour di gruppo

Un'opzione molto comoda per visitare nella stessa giornata il Vesuvio e uno dei siti archeologici tra Pompei ed Ercolano consiste nel prenotare un tour organizzato con partenza da Napoli .

Si tratta di escursioni complete, per piccoli gruppi , che includono il trasporto in veicoli confortevoli e climatizzati, la guida e, di solito, anche la possibilità di saltare la coda alla biglietteria degli Scavi e del cratere del Vesuvio. Potete optare, se ne avete voglia, per un tour che includa anche una pausa pranzo con degustazione di prodotti tipici del territorio vesuviano.

Se non avete voglia di guidare personalmente, di cambiare diversi mezzi pubblici o di perdere tempo tra attese e code, un tour di gruppo è la soluzione perfetta per voi. E garantisce anche un ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo.

Tour del Vesuvio e siti archeologici con un driver privato

Se invece preferite muovervi in autonomia e puntare sulla massima flessibilità, la soluzione che fa per voi è un driver privato che possa accompagnarvi all'orario che preferite e secondo un itinerario personalizzato e modificabile.

In questo modo, riuscirete a sfruttare al massimo il tempo a vostra disposizione, avrete più flessibilità sul vostro programma e potrete anche concedervi qualche cambiamento dell'ultimo istante. Il Vesuvio è uno dei due unici vulcani attivi dell’Europa Continentale e alto è circa 1281 metri, mostrando una tipica forma a “recinto” dominata dalla struttura a gran cono. L'intero Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio vanta non solo bellezze naturalistiche, ma anche una produzione agricola e vinicola unica per varietà e originalità di sapori e la visita al cratere è un must per i turisti da ogni parte del mondo.

Il flusso di viaggiatori sul Monte Vesuvio si registra già dal '600, perché considerato tra le tappe più “esotiche” del Gran Tour , affascinando gran parte degli stranieri che non avevano mai visto un vulcano. Tra il '700 e del '800, con la scoperta accidentale delle prime rovine di Pompei, l'escursione Pompei-Vesuvio divenne un binomio di forte valenza culturale : molti visitatori che accorrevano per ammirare l'antica città sepolta, desideravano vedere anche il vulcano che l'aveva distrutta. Tra l'800 e il 900 crebbero in maniera esponenziale le attività di escursionismo, venne fondato l'Osservatorio Vulcanologico nel 1841 e istituita la figura di Guida Montana nel 1855, preposta all'accompagnamento dei turisti nell'ultimo tratto della salita al cratere.

Ancora oggi l’escursione più richiesta dai turisti è il percorso verso il cratere che culmina con l’arrivo al Gran Cono: l’escursione non è particolarmente faticosa, è adatta a tutti e non richiede una specifica preparazione di trekking . Il sentiero da percorrere ha una lunghezza complessiva di quasi 4 km tra andata e ritorno, con dislivello di circa 140 metri e una pendenza media del 14% fino a raggiungere la quota massima di 1.170 metri dal livello del mare.

I bus e le navette che conducono al Vesuvio fermano alla biglietteria a quota 1.050 mt, da qui inizia uno stretto sentiero da cui si può già ammirare la maestosità del Vesuvio che domina la Riserva Tirone , il Golfo di Napoli e la Piana Campana. Dalla meta intermedia del percorso si può osservare Punta Nasone e, sul lato opposto, i Cognoli di Ottaviano che dominano la Valle dell’Inferno . Attraverso un sentiero di ginestre si raggiunge una piccola salita costellata di pini marittimi e betulle fino alla Baracca Forestale . Procedendo da qui si arriva sul bordo del cratere dove si gode di un panorama mozzafiato su tutto il Golfo di Napoli, gli scavi e l’Appennino molisano-abbruzzese.

Come arrivare

Si può raggiungere il Vesuvio sia con la propria auto che con gli autobus collegati agli Scavi di Pompei ed Ercolano . Se si arriva in auto , bisogna prendere l'autostrada A3 Napoli-Salerno fino all'uscita di Torre del Greco o Ercolano e poi seguire le indicazioni per il Vesuvio. A quota 800 metri si trova il parcheggio auto non custodito , che costa 5 euro per tutta la giornata. Da qui una navetta vi porterà alla biglietteria al costo di 2 euro a/r (per i bambini la navetta è gratis). Consigliamo di prendere la navetta perché il percorso dal parcheggio alla biglietteria è in salita ed è abbastanza faticoso, meglio conservare le energie per l'escursione! Con i mezzi pubblici, è possibile partire dalla fermata della Circumvesuviana di Pompei – Villa dei Misteri e dalla stazione della Circumvesuviana di Ercolano Scavi ; da qui partono bus e navette che con un costo di circa 22 euro a/r (ingresso al parco incluso) fermano direttamente alla biglietteria prima del sentiero del cratere, che si raggiunge dopo un breve tratto in salita di circa 200 mt. Ci sono anche gli autobus EAV che collegano la stazione di Pompei con il cratere del Vesuvio ogni 50 minuti.
