The Chocolate Hills in Bohol are one of the most famous landmarks in the Philippines. They create a truly unique geological formation – between 1260 and 1776 hills in varying shape and size. The hills are covered in grass, which turns brown during the summer – thus giving them their name.

How to get to the Chocolate Hills?

Most people book organized tours, which include transfers to the Hills from either Cebu or Tagbilaran. Guided tours allow to understand the history and significance of the place better, as well as make the most out of your day there. However, it’s certainly possible to travel to the hills by yourself and try out any activity and attraction you’d like.

If you are already in Bohol , then you probably booked an hotel at Panglao. Organized tours include a pickup directly from your resort. Otherwise, you’ll need to drive 30 minutes to Tagbilaran and find a guide there. It only takes 60 minutes from Tagbilaran to the Hills, so renting a motorbike and doing it by yourself is also a nice option. Travelling by bus in Bohol is generally not a good idea, since you risk wasting your whole day doing so.

Chocolate Hills Tour Quick Facts

  • Perfect for : Families, Nature lovers, Adventure.
  • Best time to visit : March to May is when the Hills get their brown color.
  • Tour package includes : Private Hotel transfers, Guided tour, Lunch, Entrance Fees, and Attractions.
  • Starting point :  Bohol.
  • Duration : Whole day.

Where to stay?

The most common choice is to book the trip to the hills from Cebu or Panglao, so you can include it in a package with accommodation there. Both places offer a wider selection of hotels and resorts, so you’re more likely to find something you like. During the day tour you can also visit other popular sites such as the man-made forest known as the Bilar Forest and the world’s smallest primate known as the Tarsier and Loboc River, so there’s really no need to spend the night at the Hills themselves.

However, booking a single night is also perfectly reasonable. You can stay at one of the resorts near in Loboc River. Selection is limited, but hotels are quite good and not too expensive compared to Mactan or Panglao. It will allow you to explore the area more thoroughly and try out more activities while there.

What to do?

Apart from hiking through the hills and admiring the unique landscape, the amount of attractions is fairly limited. This tour is combined with a visit to the Chocolate Hills with other popular tourists spots in Bohol, such as the man-made forest known as the Bilar Forest, the world’s smallest primate known as the Tarsier  and Loboc River. To do so, simply visit our Bohol day tours catalog and add the countryside tour to your Wishlist.

Below you can find information of the popular activities near the Chocolate Hills. You can pick the ones you like, and add them to your customized tour package. For more details and special requests, it's best if you contact us directly . We'll be happy to help build your entire itinerary to include anything you'd like to see or do.

Chocolate Hills ATV Tour

Renting an ATV (all terrain vehicle) is the most popular way of exploring the hills. Suitable for the whole family, you can get all muddy and dirty in this extreme ride. You'll need to get to the Buenos Aires barangay in Carmen, because that's where the rental offices are. Once there, you can either rent a vehicle or take part in a guided tour.

The guided tour goes for either 30 minutes or an hour, depends on your choice. Both include the Three Sisters Hills, and the longer route will also take you through the Eight Sisters. You can choose between a bug car or an ATV, both compatible for 2 persons. The buggy has a roof and is more like a car, so it's the safer option for novices.

You'll be accompanied by a professional guide, and provided with all necessary safety gear. The guide will help you figure out how to drive, as well as give some insights on the sights around you. Make sure to bring extra clothes, and keep in mind children under the age of 10 can only ride in the back. Pay close attention to the guide's instructions, and you are guaranteed to have a thrilling yet safe experience.

Adventure Park

This is a compound owned by the Camanayon Hill Development Corp, and a popular attraction among locals. It's especially suited for corporate events and bonding days, but that doesn't mean it can't also be a great way to pass half a day or so in Bohol.

The park has 30 different activities you can take part in. The most popular attraction is the zip line, offering a fantastic view of the hills. There's also a zip bike, as well as treetop rope climbing, horseback riding and other extreme adventures. Overall, the park is a great place for families and couples to spend some time together doing fun activities.

You'll have to pay a small entrance fee of Php 100, and then pay more for each ride you wish to take. Most of these rides cost Php 600 per person. Keep in mind though that most of them are prohibited to children under 6, and people weighing over 90kg (200 pounds).

How Does the Chocolate Hills Fit Into Your Travel Plans?

If you already plan to stay at either Cebu or Bohol , paying a visit to the Hills is a must. It's one of the most unique sites you'll see in the Philippines, and offers plenty of options for a fun and exciting day. Bohol is a relatively small island, and the hills are not far from Tagbilaran, so including the tour in your package is very easy.

Book the Chocolate Hills tour package, or add it into a larger itinerary of the Visayas area. This can include other exciting locations which are great for the entire family, and offer a rich taste of nature in the Philippines. Once done with Cebu and Bohol, you could continue to Dumaguete and explore the beautiful islands around it such as Siquijor for example.

Our experts will be happy to help figure out the perfect plan for your preferred vacation. We'll help you build your entire itinerary, as well as book all hotels and tours you'd like. Use our cart system to build your own custom package, or contact us for expert advice and custom tours .

ULTIMATE DAY TRIP TO THE FAMOUS CHOCOLATE HILLS IN BOHOL, PHILIPPINES

  • Travel Guides
  • April 20, 2023 July 20, 2023
  • by wini.henson

Located in the province of Bohol, the Chocolate Hills are one of the most famous landmarks of this beautiful island. These unique geological formations are a popular day trip, especially if you’re staying on Panglao.

Chocolate Hills, Bohol, Philippines

WHAT ARE THE CHOCOLATE HILLS?

The Chocolate Hills are made up of around 1,200 small hills that stretch over an area of 50 square kilometers . They are named after their appearance during the dry season, when the grass on the hills turns brown, giving the hills a chocolate-like color.

WHEN TO VISIT

The best time to visit the Chocolate Hills is during the dry season from December to May , when the hills are at their chocolatey best. However, we visited in April and there must’ve been rain recently, because the hills were a lush green when we were there!

Chocolate Hills, Bohol, Philippines

HOW TO GET THERE

There are many tours you can take from Panglao or Bohol that will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel and take you to other popular spots in the area. These tours will cost around 4000 PHP (75 USD) for a half-day, or 5500 PHP (100 USD) for a full-day tour.

The other option is to rent a scooter and do it yourself . Scooter rentals cost around 300-350 PHP (5-6 USD) and give you more freedom of where you want to go.

We opted to rent a scooter and drive ourselves from Panglao, and it took around 1.5 hours . If you drive yourself we recommend you download the map so you can view it offline, because there were some spots on the way where data cut out.

As you approach the area, the Chocolate Hills seemingly appear out of nowhere and provide some great views for the rest of your drive.

WHAT TO EXPECT

There are several viewpoints from which you can take in the scenery, the most popular being the Chocolate Hills Complex in Carmen .

We parked our motorbike in the Chocolate Hills parking lot , which is free . There is also a free shuttle that can take you to and from the parking lot. We arrived as a shuttle was departing and didn’t feel like waiting for the next one so we opted to walk the 20 minutes up the hill to the entrance, which provided beautiful views on the way up!

Tickets to the viewing area are 50 PHP (0.90 USD).

At the top, you can climb up to the observation deck and get a panoramic view of the hills. There are also some souvenir shops and restaurants here,.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you can also explore the hills by ATV. There are several trails that wind through the hills, offering views of the surrounding countryside. The trails are well-marked, and you can rent an ATV from one of the companies in the area. Just make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen, as it can get pretty hot out there!

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO ON BOHOL?

Aside from the Chocolate Hills themselves, there are several other attractions in the area that are worth checking out. One of the most popular is the Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary , where you can see the world’s smallest primates up close. It’s about a 45-minute scooter ride from the Chocolate Hills to the Tarsier Sanctuary, and it’s on the way back to Panglao so it’s very convenient.

The Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary is a legitimate sanctuary that is dedicated to preserving this endangered species. One important thing to note is that unfortunately, there are other companies in the area, such as the Loboc Tarsier Conservation Area, that exploit the Tarsiers for profit and don’t operate ethically. Cultural Significance and Local Legends

Beyond their striking beauty, the Chocolate Hills hold deep cultural significance for the people of Bohol.

Legend has it that the famous Chocolate Hills in Bohol originated from a fierce battle between two colossal giants. As the giants clashed, torrents of rain poured down, causing the giants to create massive mud balls from the earth, flinging them at each other relentlessly.

The epic fight lasted for what seemed like an eternity until the exhausted giants collapsed and perished. The people, who had sought refuge elsewhere, returned to find the giants defeated and buried them with gratitude. Thus, the site of their ferocious duel became the landscape we now know as the Chocolate Hills.

HOW WERE THE CHOCOLATE HILLS IN BOHOL FORMED?

The Chocolate Hills in Bohol were formed through a process known as limestone weathering. Millions of years ago, coral reefs in the sea died and accumulated on the ocean floor, forming layers upon layers of limestone.

Over time, tectonic activities — movements within the Earth’s crust — caused the seafloor to rise, bringing the limestone above sea level.

Rainwater, which contains a slight amount of acid, then seeped into the limestone, slowly dissolving it in a process known as chemical weathering.

Over a significant period, this weathering formed the limestone into the dome-like hills that we can see today – the Chocolate Hills.

HOW MANY CHOCOLATE HILLS ARE THERE?

Some reports indicate there are 1,260 Chocolate Hills in Bohol, however, others believe there could be as many as 1,776.

MY EXPERIENCE AT CHOCOLATE HILLS BOHOL

We left our accommodation in Panglao at 4 am to make the drive out to the Philippines Chocolate Hills in time for sunrise.

It was a long and chilly motorbike ride to reach the Chocolate Hills viewpoint in Carmen town but we were the first tourists to arrive which made the early journey worth it.

I parked the scooter right at the top of the hill and then climbed the steep set of stairs to reach the Chocolate Hills viewpoint.

At the top of the stairs is a panoramic observation deck boasting extensive views of the 1,268 cone-shaped Chocolate Hills and the surrounding Carmen region .

I spent a good hour taking photos of the Chocolate Hills in the Philippines and was not once interrupted by large groups of tourists which is quite common at this Bohol tourist spot.

I would definitely recommend you visit at sunrise and by arriving early in the morning as we did, you’ll most likely have the whole viewing deck to yourself.

The mysterious landscape is very impressive, to say the least, and definitely worth adding to your itinerary.

Chocolate Hills also offers facilities such as restrooms, a restaurant, and a souvenir shop.

BOHOL CHOCOLATE HILLS – INTERESTING FACTS

These limestone Chocolate Hills are covered with grass and appear to be bright green during the rainy season.

However, they turn brown by the end of the dry season, hence their name.

The hills are surrounded by green trees but funnily enough, no trees grow on the hills.

The hills are spread over an area of 50 square kilometers and vary in size from 30 meters to 120 meters in height!

The Chocolate Hills are all spread over the towns of Valencia, Batuan, Carmen, Bilar, Sierra Bullones, and Sagbayan.

We later found out that you can view the Chocolate Hills of the Philippines from two lookouts – one in Carmen which is the one that appears in Google Maps and one in Sagbayan called the Sagbayan Peak.

See More → Awesome Things To Do In Bohol

The formation theory of the hills assumes that they are grass-covered limestones that were once part of the marine floor.

However, the massive uplift of coral deposits and the effects of rain, water, and erosion have created the amazing formation that you see today.

Chocolate Hills are considered to be a national patrimony in the Philippines and this popular Bohol tourist spot is now even featured in the provincial flag and seal of Bohol .

Great article ! Very helpful indeed as we’re also interested in a sunrise discovery of Chocolate Hills and thus avoid crowds. (Just a question : where did you take your pictures on top of the empty hill ? Was it an extra stop to enjoy the view ?) Thanx in advance.

you’re most welcome, thanks for reading. the picture is taken at the main viewpoint. hope this helps and enjoy your trip!

You’ve been very helpful in planning our trip to Bohol this November. Especially this article since we really want to visit the hills during sunrise but the information available online are confusing. This helps clarify things. Thank you so much!

Hi Jean, that’s awesome, glad you got the information you needed about Chocolate Hills. Have an awesome trip!

Hello, How did you visit Chocolate hills for sunrise when they open from 8:30am?

Many thanks.

Hey, the ticket office was not open but I was still able to pass through the entrance and visit the viewpoint and then paid the entrance fee upon departure from Chocolate Hills. Enjoy 🙂

1. Visit the Chocolate Hills

Chocolate Hills in Bohol, Philippines

No trip to Bohol is complete without seeing this iconic landmark, which is even featured in the local Philippine Peso currency . Bohol's claim to fame is the unique geological formation of over 1000 cone-shaped hills that change in color depending on the season – the  Chocolate Hills . You can view the hills from the Chocolate Hills Complex when you book Chocolate Hills tours . There’s a viewing deck with a stunning 360° view of the cone-shaped hills.

These giant mounds of chocolate-colored earth in the dry season turn green during the wet season. The hills are spread out on a 50-square kilometer land and vary in size.

  • Book  Chocolate Hills ATV tours
  • Brush up on Chocolate hills facts

According to local legends, the hills were created by two giants who got into a fight and threw boulders and rocks at each other. The mess they left after their battle is said to eventually lead to the formation of the hills that we know today. Another story says that the hills are tears of a heartbroken giant who fell in love with a mortal.

The third story, quite a funny one, is about a giant carabao that plagued the town and ate all the crops. The townspeople then fed it their spoiled food. When the carabao defecated, they dried up to become the hills.

In reality, the Chocolate Hills are conical karst hills that were formed by the uplift of coral deposits combined with rainwater and erosion. It's considered to be an extraordinary example of karst topography and is the main highlight of most Bohol excursions .

3. Explore Hinagdanan Cave

Hinagdanan Cave features a pool of clear water at the bottom

The Hinagdanan Cave, one of the most beautiful caves in the Philippines , features a pool of clear water at the bottom. You can swim here under the mesmerizing sight of stalactites and stalagmites.

The word "hinagdanan" means laddered in Cebuano. This now-famous Bohol tourist destination is said to have been accidentally discovered by a farmer who built a ladder to access the cave, thus the name. The cave also holds historical significance as it was once used by locals to hide during World War II.

Only one person at a time can enter the 100-meter-long cave during a trip to Panglao Island. Be careful when traversing the trails, as they can get slippery because of the moisture inside the cave. Once you get inside, you will be treated to the breathtaking site of a freshwater lagoon that's about 10-12 meters deep.

The light filters through the nearby cave entrance, filling the whole area with a relaxing and otherworldly glow. It is not like any swim you've had before! Once you're done taking a dip, you can also check out the souvenir shops right outside the cave.

Tarsiers are nocturnal and considered the smallest primates in the world

Like the Chocolate Hills, the tarsiers and their big eyes are synonymous with Bohol as well. These nocturnal creatures are considered to be one of the smallest primates in the world.

They grow to be just 15 centimeters long at most, and they're just so cute! Tarsiers can also be found in other Philippine destinations like Samar, Leyte, and parts of Mindanao. But Bohol is known for its tarsier sanctuary tours that help preserve and raise awareness about these species.

If it's your first time in Bohol, don't miss a visit to the Tarsier Conservation Area in Loboc or the Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella. These tarsier sanctuaries allow tourists not just to see these small creatures up close, but also to learn more about them. For the complete experience, you can join  Bohol countryside tours  that combine other top Bohol tourist tourist attractions with this stop.

When visiting the tarsiers, remember that they are nocturnal and are asleep during the day. You'll find them perched on branches around the sanctuaries. Make sure to keep the noise down because they're sensitive to sound.

Taking their photos is fine, but keep the flash turned off not to wake them up. Touching them is also a no-no because it will stress them out.

This natural cave pool, locally known as Kabagno Cave, has been gaining popularity because of its crystal clear waters that you can plunge into from its opening. The cool waters are around 20-25 feet deep and are popular with cliff divers.

Another enchanting natural cave pool not to be missed in Anda, Bohol. It has a more shallow pool with just 4-5 feet deep water. The rock formations of the cave look like a chandelier that's why it's named after the word "kumbento" or convent.

Fish and brown rice ate Bohol Bee Farm Resort

With all the exploration you'll be doing around Bohol, you're sure to get hungry! Facade of the Baclayon Church in Bohol, Philippines

Go on an excursion and see some of the heritage churches in Bohol. You'll be able to catch a glimpse of how the locals devote their time during prayer. And learn about the remnants of the historical past through its architecture. Here are some of the must-see Bohol churches:

This is the oldest church in all of Asia and is a part of a Bohol countryside tour . It's impossible to proceed in the vein of historical churches without visiting this. The devastating earthquake of recent years damaged the original church, but through momentous efforts, the entire church has been rebuilt.

Officially called the Church of the Immaculate Concepcion, the church also has a museum with some religious artifacts. It's also pretty accessible since it's an easy drive from the Blood Compact site.

Officially named the Church of San Pedro, this church is the second oldest in the province. If you're looking for something like the Sistine Chapel, this is it — the church has excellent exteriors, complete with a heavenly scene painted on its ceiling! It's often included in a day trip in Bohol.

Also known as Our Lady of the Assumption, this church was built in 1697 and is dubbed by The National Historical Commission as a National Historic Landmark. Its neoclassical exteriors perfectly complement its stunning interiors, making it a must-visit church included in a Panglao tour.

The locals know this church as Panglao Church.  It's well-known for its ceiling paintings and marble floors. It's a church included in a sightseeing activity in Panglao.

One of the largest and most-frequented churches in Bohol, the Cathedral is made of ancient coral stone. It has undergone some facelifts, but you’ll still see the original pieces that are touchstones to the country’s religious history.

11. Learn History at the Blood Compact Shrine

The Blood Compact Shrine depicts Sikatuna and Legazpi, as the former pledged allegiance to the latter

If you want to see more of Bohol’s colonial past, make sure to drop by this next tourist attraction. The Sandugo or Blood Compact Shrine monument found in Bo-ol district of Tagbilaran City is a landmark at the site of the first international treaty of friendship between Spaniards and Filipinos. It's a popular attraction included in a Bohol day trip.

This place represents a junction in our history that pretty much led to us being who we are now. The Blood Compact Shrine depicts Sikatuna and Legazpi at the famed "Sandugo" moment, as the former pledged allegiance to the latter. The National Artist makes it for Sculpture, Napoleon Abueva.

It is also an easy trip since it's just along the main roads you'll pass as you go around the city. You can hail a tricycle from the town proper and ride a bus from the Dao terminal. Ride the bus that goes through Barangay Bo-ol.

If you’re not fond of commuting and you want to see the Sandugo Shrine along with other major tourist spots, you can join this fun sightseeing activity in Bohol.

You can also participate in a combination tour that explores the best of Panglao historical and natural sites in a day! Be ready to snap photos of this important event in history.

Tigbao Hanging Bridge is made of woven bamboo straps and stretches over a gently flowing river

You’ve crossed hanging bridges, but have you crossed one made entirely out of bamboo? This well-known hanging bridge often included in a sightseeing trip in Bohol is made of woven bamboo straps and stretches over a gently flowing river.

The locals know it as Tigbao Hanging Bridge. There's an entrance fee, but you get free access to the tourist spot if you join a sightseeing tour in Bohol as it's mostly included in the itinerary.

The Tigbao Hanging Bridge is located in Sevilla, Bohol. It's suspended 83 feet above the Loboc River and is the primary connection between two barangays in the town.

Crossing it might scare you at first, especially if you have a fear of heights. But fear not! It's safe and a unique way to get a whole perspective of the Loboc River.

To ease your mind about its structural integrity, the bridge has a set of cables that ensure its stability. Your reward for braving the heights and the wobbling? A souvenir shop at the other end.

It's pretty touristy, but hey, at least there's something! Whether you're a local finding new things to do, or you're a tourist wanting to experience everything extraordinary in Bohol, this is a must-add in your to-do list

13. Take photos at Bilar Man-Made Forest

Guy passing through the Bilar Man-Made Forest in a motorcycle

It was a successful project, as many laborers, government employees, locals, and even students helped each other plant the seedlings. The project covers 20,000 hectares in the towns of Loboc, Batuan, Carmen, Valencia, Jagna, Sierra Bullones, and more.

The Bilar Man-Made Forest often included in Bohol countryside tours  is great for a slow walk down a natural tunnel formed by the canopies of well-spaced trees. It's a tranquil place, so it's great if you're looking for a short pit stop before your next Bohol adventure, the forest is just north of it.

It has a stretch of two kilometers and is made with white and red mahogany trees. This tourist destination is often packaged with other tourist spots such as Chocolate Hills in a guided sightseeing excursion in Bohol. It’s also combined with nearby attractions such as this sightseeing tour with Loboc River Cruise.

14. plunge into bohol’s waterfalls      .

View of the Dimiao and Pahangog Twin Falls in Bohol, Philippines

Relax and unwind at Bohol’s famous waterfalls. Take a dip in these gorgeous waterfalls accessible by public transportation or by joining a Bohol waterfalls escapade.

20 kilometers from Tagbilaran and found in the forest of Barangay Can-omay are hidden waterfalls called Mag-Aso Falls, named after ‘aso’ or smoke due to the drizzles resembling smoke that is formed from the strong drop of water.

Out of 20 waterfalls in Bohol, this waterfall is the most accessible from the capital Tagbilaran City and is also less crowded, as it is still not yet commercialized. It’s a must-try half-day tour in Bohol.

Just around an hour’s drive from Alona Beach is one of the most enchanting spots of nature anywhere in the region. The falls themselves are sparkling clean! Take a dip in its turquoise waters and admire the scenic view it offers. The place is quite popular, so expect some company while you’re here.

This waterfall is located at Balilihan, Bohol. It’s one of the highly-recommended waterfalls in the province because of its amphitheater-like cascading of waters. You can swim and laze around the waters for as long as you like!

There's also a Kawasan Falls in Bohol and not just the popular one in Cebu . This gorgeous waterfall has a high drop of 20 meters and is blessed with clean and aquamarine waters. The good news is it's included in most waterfalls tours in Bohol.

15. have fun at a butterfly garden   .

Butterfly from Bohol's Butterfly Sanctuary

The Center has several facilities that would take more than an afternoon to cover. Its main one is the Butterfly Garden, where over 50 species of butterflies flutter around freely. Seats and pathways are available for strolling around or idly watching them as they fly by.

Butterflies who are inbred can be visited in the Butterfly Enclosure, which has a waterfall and caterpillar feeding displays as well. Guests can also take a walk at the Nature Trail, located on a small hill where tropical plants, birds, and other small wildlife are also present.

Butterfly and insect collections are displayed in the Visitor Center, where the restaurant is located.

You can reach this habitat conservation center along the highway of Carmen Town. Colored flags serve as the signage to the entrance of the Center, which is roughly 40 kilometers away from Tagbilaran City, the capital of Bohol.

Guests are required to pay an entrance fee before entering the vicinity. But you can get in for free if you join Bohol tours that include this tourist spot in the itinerary.

Firefly watching at Abatan River in Bohol, Philippines

  • Read our guide on the best firefly-watching tours in the Philippines

The Abatan River stretches 20 km, traversing several small villages in Bohol province. The river opens to an estuary, which grows as many as 32 mangrove species of the entire Philippines.

Before the fireflies can glow, they spend three years as larvae in the undergrowth beneath the trees. They then metamorphose as bioluminescent fireflies but could only light for one month of their adult lives.

You can go ahead and tour the mangroves on a kayak, either on a shared tour or private tour. Prepare to see the fireflies, which are bioluminescent phytoplanktons that twinkles in the galaxies beneath and above the mangroves come evening.

You can even have a tour package with dinner before or after the Abatan River firefly tour! The mangrove tunnel tour and firefly tour each lasts 2 hours. Proceeds help sustain ecotourism projects as well as fund local scholars. If you've already been to Abatan, you can also try Loay firefly watching .

Go on a sightseeing tour in Bohol’s city proper, Tagbilaran! See some of the iconic tourist spots and discover the rich heritage of the city. There are many beautiful places in Bohol you can visit while in the area, but these are the top ones included in a Tagbilaran city experience:

This is President Carlos P. Garcia's former mansion turned museum in Tagbilaran. It is reminiscent of the White House due to its color and displays various furniture and paraphernalia belonging to his family.

This heritage house was built by Julian Rocha, a well-known 19th-century architect in Bohol. It displays a rich and extensive furniture collection reminiscent of Spanish ancestral houses during the colonial period. Please note that this attraction has varying operating hours, so it's best to check before planning a visit.

It’s a must-visit church due to its gorgeous Neo-Romanesque facade, with a depiction of Old Testament symbols on its side interiors.

It’s one of the best museums in Bohol because of its extensive collection of geological remains, rock formations, burial coffins, and others.

Most sightseeing Bohol tours pass by this tourist spot as it’s the perfect place for photography shots. It’s also the region’s biggest government center.

Fresh oysters from Cambuhat Oyster Farm in Bohol, Philippines

One of the must-try activities in Bohol is a trip to the Cambuhat Oyster farm. It's situated in the municipality of Buenavista, Bohol. It is part of an eco-friendly tourism enterprise by the Cambuhat Enterprise Development & Fisheries Association (CEDFA).

Tourists get to see how oysters are planted and harvested. Also, learn about the preservation of mangroves on this tour.

  • Cebu-Bohol-Siquijor tour package
  • El Nido-Cebu-Bohol tour package

Due to its geographic location, the locals of Buenavista engage in farming and fishing as their primary source of livelihood. The locals were able to develop oyster farms along the Cambuhat river.

The people are also into weaving, basket making, and broom making. The local government has developed some of its natural attractions and has been gaining from tourism as well.

This oyster village tour begins by taking the tourists to the Cambuhat River in Buenavista, where participants will board a small boat. They will paddle down the river to see the oyster farm, witness a demo of planting and harvesting oysters and even taste fresh oysters.

The tour guide will also take them through the mangroves and nipa palms, where the guests will learn more about the preservation and management of the river
