Grand Central Terminal, NYC

Experience awesome New York City sites at night, as you hop aboard our comfortable glass-top bus for a comprehensive, fully-guided bus tour of NYC at night. Your tour guide will accompany you and will get off with you at each stop, helping you see a different side of New York City!

This 4.5-hour guided night bus tour includes stops at the High Line Park and Little Island on the Hudson River, Grand Central Terminal, Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport, and Times Square! The tour starts at 5:30 pm in the Times Square area on 7th Avenue, between 50th and 51st Streets (in the middle of the block), and ends at 10 pm at the same location. Please note that ending time might be later than listed due to NYC traffic conditions.

We leave our starting/ending location in Times Square and go to our first stop – one of the most fascinating attractions in New York City – the High Line Park. The stop includes a 15-minute walk on the elevated, linear park that was originally a railway dating back to the industrial days of the west side of Manhattan.

We continue our guided walk to NYC’s newest outdoor space – Little Island – a 2.4-acre public park on the Hudson River.

Off to Pier 17 at the historic South Street Seaport for magnificent views of the Downtown Brooklyn skyline and the iconic Brooklyn Bridge at night!

We make a stop in Lower Manhattan for a quick bite at Little Italy Pizzeria and Deli on 50 Fulton Street, where you’ll also have access to other nearby local food spots. Please note that food and drinks are optional and are not included in the price of your tour ticket.

Our next stop is Grand Central Terminal for a quick indoor tour of this iconic NYC landmark and the views of the Chrysler Building and NYC’s newest skyscraper – One Vanderbilt!

The bus heads back to the heart of NYC – Times Square, back to our original starting point on 7th Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets.

Additional sites and neighborhoods you’ll also see from the comfort of your bus include the Tribeca neighborhood, where celebrities Robert De Niro and Taylor Swift live, Midtown East, the Chelsea Piers, the East Village, the Financial District, the Meatpacking District, the three bridges along the East River – Brooklyn Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, and Manhattan Bridge, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, the United Nations Building, One World Trade Center, the MetLife Building, the Chrysler Building, and more!

All I can say is Kudos to Betty for being an amazing driver through the city! She kept everyone safe through the smallest areas of the roads, Excellent driver! Jim was spectacular hosting us through the city.. from joking to detailed info of the city he kept everyone entertained. This was my first time doing a tour in a city before as well as a first time visit to NYC and I couldn't of had a better time anywhere else.

Excellent dusk to dark tour of NYC. Robert the tour guide, life long New Yorker, gave the insider view of life and history of the City that never sleeps. Best part of the tour is the three different bus stops and walks that give you an insiders visit to some of the best landmarks. The bus was comfortable, climate controlled and complementary water. Highly recommend this tour that feels private not just a hop on hop off double decker. Bonus points when the tour ended at the last stop we saw Pam Anderson leaving her Broadway play!

What an incredible tour! Just look at all the amazing sites that we got to visit! I loved doing the night tour because although it goes fast, you avoid the crowds and the heat.

As I sat in my nice air conditioned bus an and sipped my complimentary water I was glad I didn’t take the other tours in the middle of July during the muggiest part of summer. Worth the money!

From the moment, we stopped in Hudson Valley, I felt like I am surrounded by apples. Apples and apples were all around the valley. What a view that was! We had beautiful pictures in that valley. I was there with my friend who is very much into books so she had a great time in the Presidential Library. While visiting such beautiful and informative places I found that it was the finest trip also because of the good guidance of our guide. If I look back to my trips I will certainly regard as the finest one. Thanks to all those who were there to offer their finest services. Who would miss an option of such a place? Easily 5-stars.

Waoo. I had no idea what a wonderful tour it will be. Both places were good but no words for the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt. The house was very beautiful. Tour was full of information and historical knowledge. Our guide was a nice and well-informed lady, she told us about important facts and historical stories. She also recommends me a very informative book. The Library was well maintained. Don't miss a tour of the rose garden where Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor are buried. We also had enough time in all places to enjoy because the time was properly managed by the bus services. It was a smart trip I must say and I enjoyed a lot. Recommended.

Absolutely the best

After researching both major tour buses for NYC (big bus tours and gray line), I decided on Big Bus because their fleet is 100% wheelchair/scooter accessible. We visited from Nov 7-11. The app was very handy. The staff at Madame Toussauds were great and gave helpful information. The bus reps at the stops very very helpful making sure we were all on the correct bus and were very accommodating to us. We had a large 16 person party and one scooter. The guides were funny and entertaining. Some were better than others but we enjoyed all of them. Each offered different information along the tour and all made sure we were comfortable and had earbuds. I was so worried after reading mixed reviews, but we were completely satisfied with this company and would recommend it! The bus stops were easy to find. We had NO problems at all hopping on and off and we did that a lot. We did the downtown tour two days and the uptown tour one day. We skipped the night tour and the cruise because it was so cold when we visited. Buses ran so frequently we never waited more than a few minutes at each stop/pick up. I would absolutely recommend this company!!

Fun service sometimes hard to find the stops

My family had only one day in London and this was a great option to get around freely while also seeing the top sightseeing attractions. Audio tour was okay but would have loved a really person presenting. Did the walking tour with Julia, she was amazing, very informative and funny. Only think I had trouble with was knowing the right stops. I using both the paper and the phone and still had trouble with getting to the right stops. Then also transferring from the red line to the blue line was also difficult. But overall a great option to do when in London and just want to try and see as much as you can! Also, River cruise is a must! The live tour guide was funny and very informative. Both highlights where the walking tour and the river cruise!

Developer Response ,

Not sure I’d call it Hop on Hop off

We purchased a two day pass & good thing. The app worked great on Sunday; we could see when busses were arriving, how much time we had before it arrived etc but by Day 2 (Monday), the app was not working at all. We couldn’t even plan to utilize the other perks that came along with purchasing a deluxe pass b/c you never knew when your rude would show up?! There was no way to know when the next bus would arrive. It was taking over an hour & a half for the next bus to arrive. For this reason we had to skip our next 2 desired stops b/c we didn’t want to get stranded & had made plans to meet up with friends later. In fact, once we arrived at Pier 39; we ended up taking a taxi to our hotel near Union square since we were told they needed to sanitize the bus which is understandable, but would have to wait 30 min before we could leave. Obviously it became apparent that they don’t run multiple busses on weekdays. Next time I’ll wait until the cable cars are operational or spend my $ on a taxi driver to take me around to see the sights.

Your Guide to Visiting New York City

Airports & entry, planning tips, restaurants & eating out, nightlife & entertainment, getting around, accommodations.

There are three airports in New York City: John F Kennedy International Airport, La Guardia Airport, and Newark Liberty International Airport.

To get from the JFK Airport to the city, take the AirTrain, which links to the subway, and will take you to Manhattan in one hour by the cost of $2,75. Or use the service of an express bus to Grand Central Terminal or Port Authority, which takes 1,5 hours and costs $18.

You can also take a taxi from the taxi dispatch booths or use services, such as Uber. The flat taxi fare is $52, excluding tolls, tips, and rush hour surcharge.

La Guardia is the closest airport to Manhattan, and still, least accessible by public transport. You can take an express bus #Q70, which will bring you to the 74 th St – Broadway metro station, and will cost you $15. Or take a cab, which will cost approximately $34 – $53, excluding tolls and tips.

From Newark Liberty Airport, take the AirTrain to Newark Airport train station, and then, take any train to New York Penn Station for $13. Taxi fares range from $60 to $80, excluding tolls and tips.

You should promptly consider your plans for the Big Apple, before you pack your luggage. Are you going for a picnic in the Central Park? Are you planning to visit a musical, an opera, or a theatre performance? Are you going to dine in a luxury top-end restaurant on the Fifth?

Consider all your wants and needs for your trip to New York, not only to pack everything you might need, but also to get tickets in advance. Keep in mind, the most popular places and events can be highly overbooked during the high season (summer, vacation time, and during the holiday season).

New York City might have its disadvantages, but you’ll never get hungry in the Big Apple, that’s for sure. Countless cafes, bars, bistros, and restaurants cater for every taste and budget. Italian, Asian, Middle Eastern, Greek, French, Mexican – the variety of cuisines available is outstanding.

From small family cafes to large international restaurant chains, from fast food to luxury “haute couture” cuisine, from street food of all kinds to extravagant restaurants with huge booking lists. To get the best taste of NYC, we would recommend taking a guided NYC food tour .

Whatever plans you have for the Big Apple, you definitely can’t leave without trying these typical New York foods and drinks:

  • Cheesecake New York
  • Long Island Ice Tea

If you are on a budget, don’t miss the markets: Chelsea and Fulton 55, where you can find all kinds of New York street food, as well as numerous budget cafes. To get the best taste of NYC, we would recommend taking a guided NYC food tour .

New bars and clubs open and close in New York City all the time. Every district is filled with night entertainment facilities. If you are in Manhattan, head to Greenwich Village. There are plenty of places, popular with locals, mostly NYU students. Chelsea and Lower East Side are other popular nightlife spots in the heart of the Big Apple. However, if you are staying in Brooklyn, Queens, or Staten Island, don’t worry, you won’t feel the lack of sparkling New York nightlife.

New York City has the name of the world capital of jazz, and it is probably true. The city has expired many world famous jazz musicians in the past, and nowadays, it has countless settings, where you can listen to good jazz music, while enjoying a drink with your friends or a date.

Probably, the most famous jazz club in the world is the Blue Note in Greenwich Village. And the Village Vanguard, which dates back to 1935, is another popular spot in the district for jazz admirers. However, if you can’t afford such top-end places, take a look at Smalls or Fat Cat, situated also in Greenwich Village, just a block from each other, which keep their charges quite reasonable.

Salsa, although originates from Cuba, also draws numerous dance lovers to New York City clubs. If you find yourself into passionate Afro-Caribbean rhythms, head to Copacabana, the best-known Latin dance club dating back to 1940’s, situated right next to Times Square, El Morocco in Spanish Harlem, or Iguana in West Midtown.

As for classical entertainment, Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall, along with Broadway theaters are the main venues you should head towards. Opera, ballet, music shows, and concerts of all kinds will suit any cultural taste and budget.

And, of course, most New Yorkers tend to be passionate sports fans. Baseball, basketball, hockey teams – you have a wide list to choose from. Join the locals in one of the games, pick your favorite, and don’t forget to buy souvenirs during a break.

New York City has an extended system of public transportation, which includes subway, buses, commuter rail, and ferries. The terrible stories about New York City subway crimes are mostly in the past. However, you should still be careful, when traveling alone at night: don’t flash your valuables in public, use crowded stations, and try to be around people all the time.

Yellow cabs are as much the symbol of New York City, as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. They are numerous, reasonably priced, and comfortable. To get a cab, all you need to do is stand close to the road and raise your arm. However, if you are in a hurry, it may be wiser to go underground, due to heavy traffic, especially during rush hours.

New York City has some of the most expensive accommodations in the world. Be prepared to pay a minimum of $100 – $200 for a hotel room and, at least, $50 for a bed in a hostel in Manhattan. However, Manhattan is not the only district in New York. You can find much cheaper accommodation in Long Island City, Queens, Brooklyn, or New Jersey. Cheaper fares are also available during January and February, in the end of August, and on Sundays.

Typically, the room fare is claimed without taxes. All New York State and New York City taxes add up to approximately 15%. So, be prepared to pay more on arrival, than the amount on the booking.

New York City generally experiences cold winters, wet springs, hot humid summers, and cool dry autumns. In winter, the temperature can decrease to -18 o C and during the summer, be prepared for the temperature to go up to 38 o C sometimes. Snowstorms are regular during the winter months, but the snow rarely lies longer, than for a couple of days. Also, tropical storms can hit the city during summer time and in September. So, keep that in mind.

Attractions

The Big Apple is never short on attractions to keep tourists busy from sun up to sun down. The Empire State Building is one of the most popular attractions as you are able to see the New York skyline from the observation deck. The Statue of Liberty is not to be missed. If you find yourself in Central Park, there are plenty of food vendors and even free activities to enjoy. If you want to take in a show, be sure to hit Broadway, and if music is your thing, there’s always the Radio City Music Hall.
